slow
One-hand watches from Hamburg, most of them read over 24 hours.
slow builds its watches around a single hand. On most of the range that hand makes one turn of a 24-hour dial each day, after the early one-hand clocks that showed the whole day at once, and each index stands for a quarter of an hour. It began at the end of 2012 with the Jo, a 38 mm octagon launched in fifteen variants, followed by the smaller and softer octagonal Mo at 34 mm and the 42.5 mm O, rounded on every side. The Round of 2017, 40 mm and genuinely round, has since overtaken the Jo as the most successful family, and the house says it will make no more O models; the 34 mm Round-S is its smaller sister, aimed mainly at women. The Twelve arrived in 2022, grown out of an AM/PM special edition made mainly for the US and UK market, and shows twelve hours instead of twenty-four. Beside the quartz models sit an automatic, the Automatically slow, and the Solar, with a recycled aluminium case, recycled straps and a date. slow describes its watches as manufactured in Switzerland (the Solar's own specification table gives China as its country of origin); the company behind them, Blackboard GmbH, is registered in Hamburg.
